The work "Fake Abstract Sir Thomas Lawrence" by Lino Lago represents an innovative fusion between abstract art and figurative art. The Spanish artist reproduced the masterpiece of the famous English portraitist Sir Thomas Lawrence, "Lady Maria Conyngham" from 1816, adding his own distinctive touch: a layer of gold leaf paint partially covers the figure of the Irish marquise, leaving only a glimpse of fragments of the original painting.
This overlapping technique creates a visual dialogue between the past and the present, between the traditional and the contemporary, perfectly embodying Lago's artistic research. Through this series of works, called "Fake Abstract", Lago explores and challenges the apparent dichotomy between abstract art and figurative art, rejecting the idea of the supremacy of one style over the other.
