“Fake Abstract Sassoferrato” is a work by Lino Lago that reproduces a masterpiece by Giovanni Battista Salvi, known as Sassoferrato. The painting in question is a representation on canvas that portrays the martyr "Saint Apollonia". Lino Lago covers Sassoferrato's work with a layer of color which is partially revealed by a sign that allows us to glimpse the subject of the work, Sant'Apollonia. The gesture on the canvas performed by the Spanish painter is comparable to a sponge stroke on a surface covered by a layer of dust; this gesture allows you to discover what lies beneath this patina. In fact, under a layer of gold leaf, a white and beautiful face appears, painted with the refinement that reminds us of Raphael's artistic heritage. A fingerprint, on a dusty surface, apparently random, shows us what lies beneath the accumulation of dust. The desire to remove the layer of color that covers most of the work is established in the viewer.
