The artist conceived the sculpture of Nike through a "cage" of wooden bars, framing the winged figure. The statue is inspired by Pythocritus's famous Nike of Samothrace, sculpted to honor a naval victory in the Roman-Syrian War. Why would Accossato choose to create his own version of the young winged goddess, daughter of Pallas and Styx? That image confronts the classical virtue of divinity, desecrating it and freeing the viewer from an archaic and obsolete perspective. In a historical landscape evolving toward the commodification of art, the statue of Nike could also represent a new way to preserve cultural heritage.
