Emma and the Elephant depicts a frail little girl, Emma, in the effort to lift an enormous elephant with a single rope. The sculpture, 40 centimeters tall, is a touching metaphor of the weight and conditioning of other people's expectations. For Stefano Bombardieri every human being must deal with what the family, society and the world expect from him. A heavy boulder that we often don't even realize is represented by the elephant. Splendid execution. Little Emma is frail but at the same time strong and elegant: she almost seems to be performing a dance step. The elephant is magnificent, extremely faithful to reality thanks to the folds of the skin, the proportions, the tusks. The eyes of the pachyderm and those of Emma stare at each other intensely, as if there was a silent collaboration. The artist reminds us that children and animals are the purest creatures on this planet.
