This series of works of art created by Griffith represent a series of sculptures that reinterpret the famous Chupa Chups lollipops, transforming them into objects of contemporary and Pop design. Made with resin and acrylic paints, these sculptures are a combination of playful irony and sophisticated artistic technique. The sculptures have the classic shape of Chupa Chups and can be presented in two ways.
On Base: Some sculptures are placed on a base that allows them to stand.
Wall Hanging: Others are designed to hang on the wall, creating the visual effect of a melting lollipop. Many Chupas feature paint splatters reminiscent of Jackson Pollock's dripping technique.Griffith incorporates logos and luxury brands such as Chanel, Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, and Tiffany onto his sculptures. This mix of pop culture and contemporary luxury underlines an ironic criticism of consumerism.
Jonathan Griffith
Jonathan Griffith was born in Grosseto on 26 October 1979. Son of Sergio, owner of one of the most important local body shops, he discovered his love for creativity and colors by working with his father. After his studies, he dedicated himself to the design of aerodynamic kits for cars and then, in 2008, became a nautical broker. The desire to celebrate the birthday of his best friend, Anna Maria, with a unique and personalized gift is the spark that launches him into the world of art. Recovered paints and composites, he created his first work, a brilliant and material painting called "Soccer". From there it never stops. Combining his passion for Pop Art with his skills, he gives life to fiberglass sculptures finished with paints and bodywork processes, thanks to which they take on that sparkling patina that drives the public crazy. Each piece is entirely handmade and unique: there will never be two completely identical pieces due to the life of the materials and the craftsmanship of the processes.
