Banksy Skate, the title from which this creation originates, represents an avant-garde work. In classic fiction, Banksy's work, Girl with Balloon, was celebrated as a poetic tale, the product of the renowned artist's imagination.
French artist Rice also harbors the image of a red heart-shaped balloon flying away. This time, however, the flight begins with the silhouette of a skateboard: a flattened, rotating acrylic tube with wheels attached, evoking the iconic skateboard deck.
The key element of the work, beyond its extraordinary realism, is undoubtedly its bold form. But what does the artist have in mind when he imagines it? Rice doesn't look back on his contemporaries with nostalgia; on the contrary, he recognizes their value using a foolproof device: self-irony.
