Mark Zwirner imagines great masters like Picasso, Basquiat, and Haring in the age of social media. Paintings are transformed into posts or live streams on Instagram, where artists become true stars even in the digital universe.
Their images garner thousands of likes and comments, while their live broadcasts are followed by a vast audience. Zwirner imagines what the lives of these great artists would have been like had they been born in our contemporary era, naturally equipped with the famous blue tick, symbol of their popularity.
The posts, presented as works of art, are often accompanied by ironic or surreal comments from other artists: Marc Chagall, for example, leaves a smiley emoji under a photo of Picasso. Live broadcasts also feature contributions from iconic figures of the 20th century, blending past and present.
With this approach, Mark Zwirner transforms the social network into a true work of art, celebrating the icons of the twentieth century. His vision combines Pop Art with Hyperrealism.
