Description by the gallery owner

Edward Spitz's artwork depicts an iconic image that explores the relationship between Uncle Scrooge and his nephew Donald Duck. Donald is young and poor, while Uncle Scrooge is old, disciplined, and very rich. Uncle Scrooge sees Donald as stupid, lazy, and incapable of managing money. His nephew turns to his uncle when he needs help.
In the image, we see Uncle Scrooge kicking Donald Duck's ass, an act that symbolizes their tumultuous relationship. The work is done with acrylic paints and includes comic book elements, such as speech bubbles with onomatopoeia representing the sound of the kick. The background is made up of real comic books.
The elevation of the comic strip transformed into an artwork recalls the pictorial concept of pop art masters such as Roy Lichtenstein.

Edward Spitz

Scopri l'artista

Edward Spitz is an artist who says little about himself, and prefers his paintings to do the talking. His works are exhibited in various public and private places in Italy and abroad. Participates in collective and personal exhibitions. His work is ironic and polite, the basis of his paintings are vintage illustrations of period comics on which he makes his characters speak, who look and wink at whoever is in front of them. They bring to the foreground, magnify the value of a key figure: Minnie, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck... they are there ready to tell us a fragment of a real story! With this mechanism the paintings break the narrative scheme of the comic and become works of art.
