“Happy XL” is a flattened can produced by Gumm. The can is branded “Cambell's Soup Can.” Gumm draws inspiration from the art of Murakami for its graphics. The artist, born in 1969, decorates the can with his iconic smiling flowers. This worn “Flower Soup” is cheerful and full of colorful petals. Furthermore, the can features splashes of color executed with a sort of “dripping” technique. A tribute to “Action Painting,” Gumm transforms waste into an original artistic product full of references. The Venetian artist, therefore, wisely analyzes the connection between art, commodity, and consumption.
