Description by the gallery owner

Gabriele Serrini creates works that engage in a fascinating dialogue between the abstract and the figurative. His subjects are drawn from pop culture, including iconic characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and the Girl with a Pearl Earring. However, his technique is anything but pop: Serrini draws inspiration from Abstract Expressionism, particularly Jackson Pollock's drip painting.

Looking closely at his paintings, one gets the impression of a purely abstract composition, made up of splashes, splashes of color, and seemingly random paint drips. The paint is applied with energy and instinct, often using a palette knife to layer the paint and create dynamism on the surface. But it's only when you step back that the image reveals itself: the chaotic, informal strokes magically recompose into a recognizable figure, transforming the abstract into the figurative.

This fusion of two very different artistic trends makes Serrini's work innovative and engaging. On the one hand, he exploits the free and spontaneous gesture typical of Abstract Expressionism; on the other, he applies this technique to construct images that belong to the pop imagination, making his style unique in the contemporary art scene. It is a triumph of technique and perception, in which the viewer's eye is invited to interact with the work to discover its multiple layers of interpretation.

Scopri l'artista

Gabriele Serrini was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1981, and has lived in Gran Canaria, Spain, since 2008. He is a renowned artist whose art transcends realism, pop art, and abstract expressionism. Beginning his career at the F. RUSSOLI art school in Pisa, Italy, Gabriele has achieved international recognition, demonstrating his originality and creating his own unique artistic language, which sets him apart and makes his work truly recognizable. Her artistic language integrates pop art with an expressionist perspective, where free strokes and the deliberate use of matter and texture create greater visual depth. Through distortion and movement, she seeks to generate an emotional connection, always maintaining a dialogue between the recognizable and the abstract. This approach allows her to explore the tensions between the figurative and the gestural, inviting the viewer into a rich and dynamic visual experience.
