The series of "Marmiferi" created by Valerio Vaccaro are extraordinary sculptures in Carrara marble representing matches, apparently made of wood. The Turin sculptor plays with our perception of the material, transforming marble, notoriously hard and cold, into an object that appears to be made of wood.
Vaccaro meticulously sculpted and finished the marble to replicate the veining, achieving a result that deceives the viewer's eye. The attention to detail is such that only by touch can the true nature of the sculpture be revealed.
