The work of art in question is a sculpture that represents a wooden chest, but which is actually carved from fine Carrara marble. Valeria Vaccaro's sculpture captures the mutation and transformation of the material: what looks like wood is actually marble, and the combustion process, usually associated with destruction, here becomes a symbol of renewal. Through fire, the destructive element par excellence, the artist transforms a common object, an apparently unusable wooden box, into a work of art of great value.
