Giorgio Laveri
Born in Savona in 1954, he spent his childhood between Rome and his hometown. From a young age, he became interested in the world of cinema, starting to work at Cinecittà alongside great masters like Tonino Guerra. In the 1970s, in Savona, he began to apply his cinematic experience to experimental art and plastic materials. It was during this period that he developed an interest in sculpture and ceramics, collaborating with the nearby factories of Albisola. In 1975, he attended a ceramics school and, after a period of training, began to explore the diverse world of ceramics.
The artist explores the complex relationship between art and tradition, working in the Mazzotti and Pastorino factories, in the Ernan Design Studio in Albisola Superiore, and, in the late 1990s, also in the San Giorgio Factory in Albissola Marina.
Laveri develops the foundations of his poetics, drawing on both the centuries-old Albisola tradition and the earlier ceramic experiences of artists such as Asger Jorn, Wifredo Lam, Lucio Fontana, Roberto Crippa, Agenore Fabbri, Emilio Scanavino, Aligi Sassu, Karel Appel, Corneille, Constant, Pinot Gallizio, and many others. These artists, beginning in the 1930s, created some of the most important masterpieces of contemporary art within the Albisola factories.
