Description by the gallery owner

In this work created by Anna, we find a composition of 24 donuts, made completely by hand one by one and meticulously personalized so as to see each donut different from the other. They are soft to the touch, almost realistic, colorful and with many small details. The artist represents the iconic dessert of the American tradition with extreme realism and in various flavors; thanks to the icing, sprinkles and various fillings, these donuts are a rainbow of colors that pleases our sight. Like Claes Oldenburg, Anna Sweet transforms these foods, which in most cases are produced industrially, into works of art, with a conceptual process similar to that used by the Swedish artist to produce his creations: these donuts so flashy and rich in sugar, they are produced by the industry with this decidedly inviting aesthetic, the objective is daily consumption, the sale of the product which is devoured voraciously by consumers who love this sweet, so satisfying from all points of view.

Anna Sweet

Scopri l'artista

Raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, above her mother's art gallery, Sweet and her eight siblings were immersed in the world of art from a young age. Anna constantly questioned the value of art as she watched her mother purchase, restore, and sell “old master” paintings. Fascinated by what appeared to be a modern art form, Anna got her first camera at the age of 12 and began photographing the women in her life. The classical backdrop of art in his home inspired his first series of photographs – underwater nudes representing the ethereal through the cooperative combination of different artistic techniques and photography. After ten years and several sold-out editions, Anna recently turned to the art world for inspiration for her next endeavor. His new series explores a sculptural medium and raises the question: “What is art and how do we consume it?”. After discovering the works of contemporary artist Damien Hirst, Anna was once again perplexed by the value of art and a single point of painting. With over 1,500 original dot paintings sold, bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars, Damien's “Dot” series has been devoured by the art world. Anna's new series is her response to this craze and is a playful gesture aimed at the modern art market. Anna lives between the Big Island of Hawaii, Key West and the Willamette Valley, expanding her practice and designing creative marketing around her new signature wine brand, Artist Block Wine, in the prestigious Dundee Hills.
